My current research is centered on several areas of second language acquisition.
My dissertation work examines the acquisition of negation in L2 Spanish. I’ve designed oral elicitation tasks that have allowed me to measure and analyze the acquisition of negative concord structures in Spanish among L1 English speakers. Beyond the dissertation: developing future projects involving heritage learners and examining different structures with respect to scope.
I am also interested in the development of morphological awareness among learners of L2 Spanish, particularly in the case of the negative prefixes <dis-> and <des->. I’m currently preparing a draft for submission with Dr. Claudia Sánchez-Gutiérrez.
I am part of the COWS-L2H team at UC Davis! We are constructing a corpus of short essays produced by L2 and heritage learners of Spanish. This project is directed by Drs. Claudia Sánchez-Gutiérrez, Agustina Carando, and Kenji Sagae.
